Our popular Algonquin Bundle includes 10 stems each of three different species. These three species are of medicinal, spiritual and/or practical significance to the Algonquin people. Included are 3 bundles of 10 each of:
Red Osier Dogwood - (min. 30 cm+) Used as an astringent and tonic, both internally and externally to treat intestinal and skin problems. Used to relieve cold symptoms and fever. Can be used as a decoration or woven for baskets.
Black Elderberry – (15 cm+) 1-3m tall – wet to moist low ground sites, tolerates some shade – 6’ x 6’, best in full sunlight – flowers, ripe fruit edible/ bark, roots, stems, leaves, unripe berries toxic (said to cause cyanide poisoning, severe diarrhea) Bark is used to treat headaches, fever, skin problems such as eczema, laxative and poultice for cuts. Used to treat burns and bruises, and to stop bleeding. May be substituted with Nannyberry depending on availability.
White Cedar (15 cm+)One of the four sacred medicines of the Anishinaabeg people. Used to treat headaches, colds, arthritis, congestion, swollen feet and burns. Contains antiseptic and anti-viral qualities.
